Sick Newborn Care Unit, Murshidabad Medical College

It was established in 17.12.2011 with a 20 bedded unit, which is now augmented to a 60 bedded unit, It has a monthly average turnover of up to 800 newborns per month. This unit has both in-born and out-born wing. While in-born unit serves in- hospital deliveries, its out-born unit admits sick newborns from whole Murshidabad district, along with adjoining Nadia, Birbhum district. Its monthly turnover is among the highest units in this state.

Apart from radiant warmer and phototherapy, this unit also regularly performs neonatal ventilation, non invasive ventilation, exchange transfusion. This unit also possess a digital x ray unit and a side laboratory for all required investigations including ABG.

Apart from that, we also run a follow up clinic in SNCU. Also we closely follow norms of kangaroo mother care in our unit.

This unit is run by 15 medical officers,25 staff nurse and 16 karmabandhus.

Apart from this unit we also run another SNCU located in Matrisadan unit of our hospital located 3 km away from the main campus solely for inborn babies delivered in Matrisadan unit of our hospital.

Thalasemia Clinic

A Thalasaemia Clinc is operative on all days in the Out Patient Department on all working days. Dr. SMA Aziz, Haematologist holds the clinics and attends the patients.
